2008 Modeling and Simulation Awards

Nomination Period Opens for the 2008 DoD Modeling and Simulation Awards for Excellence

The nomination period for the 2008 Department of Defense (DoD) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Awards opened November 1 and closed on November 30, 2007.

All individuals, teams, or organizations - DoD civilian employees and active and reserve duty Service members - of the DoD are eligible for nomination.

The DoD M&S Awards for Excellence highlight the impact of modeling and simulation upon the DoD by recognizing people and teams for their excellence and innovation in developing, improving or utilizing M&S. The central award criterion is the contribution to the implementation of the DoD M&S Strategic Vision. (For those who have submitted nominations for awards in past years, please note that winners will not be further categorized and awarded by DoD Community.)

Award winners were recognized at a ceremony during the Defense M&S Conference on March 11, 2008 at the International Plaza Resort & Spa in Orlando, Fla.

Background: There are currently six functional DoD Communities identified as integral to the DoD management process for M&S: Acquisition, Analysis, Experimentation, Planning, Testing, and Training. The Military Services, the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, and other DoD agencies and activities are major participants and contributors to all of the Communities. The DoD M&S Management System, in accordance with DoD Directive 5000.59 (http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/500059p.pdf), focuses on identifying and managing common and crosscutting M&S efforts that have the potential to move the Department toward accomplishing the DoD M&S Strategic Vision.
