The Data Team advises the Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (M&SCO) Director on all modeling and simulation matters pertaining to the development, management, and use of data used in the creation and execution of simulated environments and the analysis of simulation results. The Data Team formulates and oversees the implementation of DoD-wide M&S plans and guidelines in the areas of M&S data development and management. The team also oversees and manages projects that provide DoD corporate-level data capabilities. In addition, the Data Team represents the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) / Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (AT&L) in its various relationships with industry, universities, other Government agencies, and international and foreign organizations on matters pertinent to M&S data.

Currently, the Data team is focused on the following efforts and projects that are related to M&S Data:

Enterprise Efforts:

• M&S Enterprise Data Strategy – an enterprise data strategy for M&S data is necessary to provide governance, policy, and management priorities for the DoD.
• M&S Community of Interest (COI) – an active and effective COI is being utilized to advance the needs of M&S data at the enterprise level.

High Level Tasks (HLTs)

• Rapid Data Generation (RDG) – a project for an enterprise-level data production capability, with a five year investment strategy towards providing authoritative source data visibility and sharing for producing simulation-ready M&S data sets for Training, Planning and Mission Rehearsal activities.
• Environmental Data Cube Support System (EDCSS) – as a provider of correlated, integrated natural environments to Department of Defense (DoD) modeling and simulation (M&S), the Environmental Data Cube Support System (EDCSS) is becoming a key component of the DoD M&S Data Enterprise.
• Environmental Data Representation Requirements Study – a study that has been conducted to gather DoD-wide requirements for Environmental Data representation for M&S.
• M&SCOI Discovery Metadata Specification (MSC–DMS) – specifies a set of information fields that are to be used to describe M&S data or service assets that are made known to the Enterprise, and it serves as a reference for developers, architects, and engineers by building upon the foundation for Discovery Services initially reflected within the DoD Discovery Metadata Specification (DDMS).
