Welcome to our newly designed website! As the Department of Defense's focal point for DoD modeling and simulation enterprise activities, the M&SCO is pleased to provide you with a start point for many of your defense modeling and simulation tools, data and other resources.
The M&SCO, established in 1991 as the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO), coordinates and supports the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (USD(AT&L)) in implementing the office's chartered responsibilities to provide the leadership, guidance, technical framework, and common tools and services that promote M&S interoperability and reuse across the Department.
In October 2009, the USD(AT&L) and Assistant Secretary of Defense (Research & Engineering) aligned the M&SCO under the Systems Analysis Directorate of the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering (ODASD(SE)). This places M&SCO, and the DoD M&S enterprise, in excellent position to leverage the many cross-cutting acquisition and systems engineering initiatives championed by the ODASD(SE) - to include advances in early technical planning and systems engineering that benefit from, and inform, M&S enterprise technologies and collaborative processes.
The M&SCO implements a DoD M&S enterprise strategy that guides and supports the operational needs and investments of the Components and Communities enabled by M&S without intruding on their individual missions and Title 10 responsibilities.
The Department has achieved much success over the past two decades, but, in a sense, our journey is just beginning. As widespread as the use of M&S is in the Department, nationally, and internationally, we believe the day will come when M&S is as ubiquitous as email and the Internet. It will be an unremarkable capability the average person accepts and uses every day.
I encourage you to explore our new website. You'll find information about the enterprise-level M&S tools, data, and services we provide, such as the M&S Catalog, and pointers to Component and Community resources, that will assist you in your M&S tasks, whether you are a user or developer.
Again, thank you for visiting the M&SCO website! If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for improvement about the content on this website, please contact us at AskMSCO@osd.mil. We look forward to an ongoing dialogue with you about M&S!
