The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP) is a Joint effort for collaboration on defense research and development activities among Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. TTCP was established in 1957 with a Memorandum of Understanding among participating nations to share information and collaborate on defense programs that are common to member nations. TTCP currently oversees more than $500 million worth of joint defense related R&D that involves more than 6000 scientists and engineers at over 450 sites. These projects are managed by 11 Technology Groups and 85 Technical Panels.
TTCP Joint Systems and Analysis (JSA) Technical Panel #2 (TP2) focuses on Modeling and Simulation issues and programs that could benefit member nations. Five groups in TP2-three Focus Areas (FA) and two Action Areas (AA)-are currently engaged in research, development, and application of M&S programs:
- FA1 - Simulation and Networking Interoperability
- FA3 - Synthetic Forces
- FA4 - Synthetic Natural and Physical Environment
- AA12 - Fitness for Purpose / Validation, Verification, and Accreditation (VV&A)
- AA14 - Games and Low Cost Simulation
The DoD Modeling and Simulation Coordination Office (DoD M&SCO) represents the US Department of Defense in TTCP activities related to Modeling and Simulation in TP2. Effective 1 June 2009, the US assumed chairmanship of the M&S Technical Panel, TP2. That appointment remains in effect until 1 June 2012 (three year term).
